Why give to the NACE Foundation?

The global estimated cost of corrosion exceeds $2.5 trillion each year (NACE IMPACT Study, 2015). Meanwhile, the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) crisis and the greying of the corrosion workforce pose a major threat to our industry and keeping up with corrosion prevention demands.

To mitigate this and impact the future of our industry, the NACE Foundation invests in scholarships, training, and workforce development programs that affect the lives of students, teachers, and veterans.

How you can support the NACE Foundation

Programs that are making a difference

Student-Focused Programs:

The Foundation’s student-focused programs encourage STEM learning and research and promote higher education in STEM fields. In 2018 the Foundation provided:

  • 49 Academic Scholarships to 36 students in U.S., Canada, and India
  • Travel Expense Assistance to 176 students from 13 countries to attend NACE’s CORROSION Conference & Expo
  • Guided tours to 53 high school students of the CORROSION exhibit floor and provided information about careers in the field through the CORROSION: Opportunities Realized Mini-Camp program

“Thank you to the NACE Foundation and Materials Technology Institute for the MTI Bert Krisher Memorial Scholarship to help me pursue my dream of being a metallurgist and encouraging other girls to be a part of STEM.”
Katharine Russell, student at Michigan Technological University

Teacher Programs:

The Foundation’s teacher-focused program provides high school instructors with the Corrosion Toolkit (cKit™). The kit’s hands-on curriculum challenges, inspires, and educates students on corrosion science and engineering. Each summer, kits are introduced to STEM educators in the U.S. and Canada through the ASM Materials Camps®, with whom NACE partners. In 2018 the Foundation provided:

  • 770 NACE Foundation cKits™ to teachers at 31 camps
  • 43,000 students with the opportunity to learn about basic corrosion concepts

“Wow! The cKit™ offers all kinds of exciting explorations to inspire scientific thinking. Thank you for making education a priority.”
Sandy Gonsher, teacher and participant of the ASM Materials Camp at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, MO

Veterans-Focused Programs:

The Foundation’s veterans-focused programs provide returning military personnel NACE training with industry professionals serving as mentors on career options and industry networking opportunities. In 2018 the Foundation provided:

  • 6 veterans with funding to attend 9 NACE education courses including:
    • NACE Basic Corrosion and a Level 1 Certification Course in CP or CIP
  • Reimbursement for travel and lodging

“I completed my NACE Workforce Development Program, in November 2017. The experience was amazing! I would recommend this to any veteran looking to start a new career. The opportunities available in this industry to grow are unbelievable.”
Corey Miller, Integrity Management, Lake Superior Consulting
